Rāśi Dṛṣṭi: How Signs See Each Other in Jaimini

Parāśara aspects planets by distance; Jaimini lets signs look at each other by their movable, fixed, or dual nature. Here is the Jaimini aspect scheme and where NativeAstro uses it.

3 min read

Most people learn planetary aspect as distance: every planet sees the 7th sign from itself, and Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn each add their own special glances. Jaimini offers a second and quite different way of seeing — one in which it is not the planets but the signs that look.

Rāśi Dṛṣṭi ("sign sight") is that scheme. It rests on the three natures of the signs:

  • Movable (chara): Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn
  • Fixed (sthira): Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
  • Dual (dvisvabhāva): Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces

The Rule

Because the three natures cycle around the zodiac — movable, fixed, dual — a sign is never adjacent to another of its own nature. That is exactly what the classical rule exploits:

  • A movable sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) sees every fixed sign except the one immediately next to it.
  • A fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) sees every movable sign except the one immediately next to it.
  • A dual sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) sees the other three dual signs.

So Aries (movable) sees Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius — every fixed sign but Taurus, the fixed sign next door. Taurus, in return, sees Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, but not Aries. The relation is mutual: if a sign sees another, it is seen by it. Every sign sees exactly its own pattern and nothing else.

Why It Matters

Rāśi Dṛṣṭi describes how the arenas of life influence each other, independent of where the planets sit. It is the connective tissue of the Jaimini view: the sign of your Arudha Lagna looks at certain other signs, and whatever occupies those signs colours your public image. The Upapada's sign sight runs similarly through the marriage.

Because it works sign to sign, Rāśi Dṛṣṭi needs only the sign a planet or a Lagna occupies — not precise degrees, cusps, or divisional charts. It still depends on a birth time accurate enough to fix the Ascendant, but once that is known the sign sight follows directly.

Where NativeAstro Uses It

The engine computes the classical Parāśara planetary aspects for every reading, and those remain the backbone of aspect interpretation. Rāśi Dṛṣṭi is computed alongside the Arudhas and Chara Karakas, but only for the three signs a reading actually leans on — the Lagna, the Arudha Lagna, and the Upapada — and only to connect those derived charts to the planets sitting in the signs they see. Where the two aspect schemes agree, the reading gains confidence; where they diverge, Jaimini is describing a subtler, more sign-level influence.

We do not present Rāśi Dṛṣṭi as a replacement for the classical planetary aspects, and we do not give it a section of its own: it is a short sign-level note inside the themes where it applies. Parāśara's gaze is how the planets act; Jaimini's sign sight is how the fields of life lean on one another. Both are true, and a serious reading uses each for what it does best.

How to Find This in Your Chart

  1. Work out the nature — movable, fixed, or dual — of the sign holding your Arudha Lagna.
  2. Note which signs it sees by the Jaimini rule, then look at which planets sit there.
  3. Read those planets as influences on your public image, alongside the ordinary aspects your report already gives.
